Dear colleague,
On behalf of the Medical Staff, I would like to welcome you to North Shore University Hospital and/or Syosset Hospital. My name is Daniel Golyan, and I look forward to serving as your Medical Staff President for the next two years. As a voluntary cardiologist/ electrophysiologist, I have been an active staff member for the past 24 years and served in various leadership positions for the Medical Staff Society. Our Medical Staff has substantially increased over the years, and we now have more than 6,000 physicians, both voluntary and employed. Our Medical Staff Officers, elected by each of you on a biennial basis, represent the interests of all physicians regardless of specialty, employment status, or geographic location. We represent the interests of physicians to the Medical Board, Hospital and Health System Administration, and the general public.
The Medical Staff Society Office is located in the Physicians’ Lounge, 1 Tower, at NSUH. There is also a small physicians’ lounge at Syosset equipped with computers and coffee. The office serves as a liaison between the Medical Staff and the Hospital/ Health System. Any issues or questions that you may have concerning the Hospital and/or Health System can be brought confidentially to this office. The Medical Staff Society Office can be reached at (516) 562-2995 or via email at [email protected]. The office is open Monday- Friday from 7:30 AM- 3:30 PM, and I encourage you to take advantage of this resource and bring any issues/ concerns you are having to this office. We will do our best to rectify them as quickly as possible, and with as little involvement as necessary from you, so you can focus on practicing medicine.
As a reminder, Medical Staff Society dues are a mandatory requirement for all Active (Attending & Adjunct) members of the Medical Staff. Dues are $200 annually and the fiscal year runs from January 1st– December 31st of each year. A $50 late fee is applied to all accounts with outstanding dues on April 1st of each year. The Medical Staff Society is fully funded by physicians for physicians. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that our organization advocate for physician rights and accommodations. These dues afford us the ability to do just that. Dues can be satisfied by visiting the Medical Staff Society office, calling the office with your information, or faxing a credit card authorization form.
The Medical Staff Society’s mission supports sponsoring ongoing research and education amongst our members. Should you be interested in receiving a grant to further your education or research project, you may do so by reaching out to the Medical Staff Society Office for additional details. The Medical Staff Society is also dedicated to providing opportunities for our physicians to come together to simply decompress and network with one another. We host happy hours, socials, and larger physician networking events throughout the year. The Medical Staff Society Office will be able to provide you with dates for these upcoming events since our “new normal” looks a bit different during a pandemic.
These last couple of years have been challenging for all of us. In the face of controversy, pain, and constantly changing circumstances, we must remind ourselves that we are not alone. Each of us has shared relatable experiences. As physicians, there’s hardly ever a time for pause. Now more than ever, I encourage you to find that time to check in with your colleagues, share your stories and celebrate all of the incredible accomplishments you’ve made despite all of the factors working against those efforts.
In addition to Northwell’s Employee Assistance Program, MSSNY has developed a 24/7 peer-to-peer network for physicians to be able to express themselves in a completely confidential manner to someone who can relate. To utilize this complimentary resource, please email [email protected] or call 1-844-P2P-PEER (1-844-727-7337) and request that you be connected with a peer supporter.
I wish you all the best for your continued personal and professional success.
Best Regards,
Dr. F. Daniel Golyan
President
